History[edit] Edit

Formation and early years (2008–2012)[edit] Edit

Before the addition of Espiritu, the group performed under the name "The Cartunes" from 2008 to 2012 with previous bass player Jordan Wolfbauer. Before the birth of Badflower, the group was making a name for themselves on the sunset strip headlining and selling out the world famous Roxy Theatre (West Hollywood).[2] With a handful of songs the group teamed up with engineer, Pierre de Reader(Rilo Kiley) at Bright Street Recorders in North Hollywood, to begin the recording process. In 2012 About a Girl was released under "The Cartunes" and distributed independently on every major online music outlet.[3]

Shortly after the release, the band developed a partnership with Thousand Oaks based agency, High School Nation and began working together vigorously. This was the beginning of a new level of success for the band. The first couple tours were a combination of California and Arizona. The band played every major High School in every major city including Sacramento, Bakersfield, Phoenix,Tempe etc. The agency sent the boys in rotation testing out the waters, playing new high schools previously untouched by the agency and bands alike.[4] The band was beginning to build a strong following before they were forced to change their name due to a trademarking issue in January 2013. The band came up with the name Badflower after hearing the two words put together in a very awkward sentence. The new name was announced and About a Girl was re-released shortly after.[5]

Getting noticed (2013–Present)[edit] Edit

In early 2013, the band landed a Monday night residency at the Key Club gaining much attention from the public and the industry.[6] After one Monday night performance the band was approached by singer/songwriter Ryan Cabrera and asked to play a special acoustic performance at Ryan's house for charity.[7]

The band later went on to do two interviews on Sirius XM Radio with Lance Bass of *NSYNC alongside Australian pop duo The Veronicas.[8]

In March 2013, the group performed several showcases in Austin, Texas for the annual SXSW festival. Performing at packed clubs every night, the band landed their song "Animal" into rotation on IHeartRadio Austin for the duration of the tour gaining even more attention in the city.[9] Badflower did several interviews and acoustic performances on Phoenixbased station KWSS 93.9 after meeting with hosts Cindy Love and Kevin Gassman at a Sonic in Ozona, Texas.

In November 2013, the band's acoustic rendition of "Sexy and I Know It", originally LMFAO, was played on The Voice of Germany. http://www.the-voice-of-germany.de/video/310-unplugged-philip-boelter-violeta-kokollari-mit-sexy-and-i-know-it-clip
